Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
