The Reason this Democratic Party Has Concealed its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

This decision by the Democratic National Committee to block the release of its own post-election analysis concerning the last presidential race appears remarkable however entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the DNC behaves closer to a communications shop than a political organization focused on cultivating a volunteer base to secure victories.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to challenge the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has remained within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy might have shown that the leadership actually want to foster open debate regarding the missteps that enabled Donald Trump to return to the White House. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there's nothing to be learned following the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

The top priority: will this lead to victory? Should the answer be negative, it’s a distraction from what truly matters," a justification that has been offered for withholding the analysis.

Critical Problems an Analysis Could Have Examined

A genuine analysis with any value would not dodge certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Voter Alienation: Failing to retain among a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the Democratic ticket in 2020 was decisive in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • A Choice to Run: The unwavering insistence of a party leader to seek re-election, coupled with an extremely delayed exit, is viewed as denying Democratic voters the chance for open primaries.
  • Failing Core Democratic Voters: During a time of economic anxiety, the campaign reportedly ceding to corporate donors' interests while failing to confront the impact of big business.
  • A Gaza Factor: An unwillingness to reconsider a policy position on a major international conflict reportedly led to driving away significant blocs, particularly with young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Youth Support: Extensive evidence indicates a huge drop-off of votes for the candidate among the youth electorate.

A History of Evasion

The decision to withhold fits a recurring tendency of evading difficult realities. This mirrors a dynamic in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to an incumbent's determination to seeking another term until a catastrophic public debate performance compelled an exit.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers within the party's base had been repeatedly informing pollsters that they did not want the incumbent to be the nominee.

Financial Concerns

An honest analysis might also examine matters about financial allocations, such as how much money went to insider consultants and ad buyers during a campaign that managed to spend an enormous war chest in a short period.

A Broader Problem

Ultimately, the secrecy regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference toward the existing power structure responsible for a disastrous national race. The message for rank-and-file members – including millions of dedicated activists – is that they cannot have a right to see the lessons party chiefs say they discovered based on hundreds of interviews drawing from conversations with insiders.

A political entity unwilling to critically review its mistakes is unlikely to climb out of the pattern which was so advantageous to their opponents.
